A Table by the Window - Hillary Manton Lodge

A Table by the Window
Hillary Manton Lodge

I'm just going to come right out and say this right now, I choose this book by only one word. Recipes. After I read that I decided that YEP this book is definitely for me. See, I love cooking. Absolutely LOVE it. Besides reading, it's my favorite thing to do. And reading a book revolving around someone who is so immersed in the culinary world, amazing.

Juliette D'Alisa just lost her grandmother, has a job offer from her brother, inherited her grandmothers prep table and is dabbling in online dating. A ton on her plate right now don't you think? Oh that was good huh, "ton on her plate" totally didn't mean that little pun! haha anyways moving on! The book is about Juliette on a mission to figure out just who the guy in the photograph she found in the prep table is and her needing to decide on pretty big life changes. Does she want to quit her coveted food writer job for the opportunity to work in her brothers new restaurant? And her online dating adventure has landed her a potential treasure in Neil, the handsome doctor from Memphis, Tennessee. Long distance relationships are pretty hard, but to juggle him and the possible business with her brother? Along with the secret man in the photograph and deciding on her job?
Read the book and find out. You really won't be disappointed, I promise.

A Stillness of Chimes - Meg Moseley

A Stillness of Chimes
Meg Moseley

Laura Gantt is back in her hometown of Prospect, Georgia for her mothers funeral and to wrap up the last of her affairs. Not long after she arrives she runs into her old flame, Sean, who has the unfortunate job of informing her of the rumors swirling around about her deceased father. But will she believe that people have seen her father? That would mean he faked his death and walked out on her mother and her. Can she really believe that he would do that to the people he loved more than anything, even knowing his issues with PTSD? Will she stay longer than she had planned to look for clues as to what is really going and give Sean a chance to win her back? So many questions. This book was amazing in my opinion, in the beginning it took me a chapter or so to really get into it but when I did I finished it within the day. The authors writing style had me going back and forth with what I thought was going on and kept me quite enthralled. I really recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a mystery mixed with a little bit of romance mixed with a little suspense.

Cloak of the Light - Chuck Black

Cloak of the Light

Read Chapter One: [click here]
Authors Website: [click here]

I received this book on the 7th of February around 11am or so. By 5pm that night I was finished. To say it was a good is an understatement. I didn't want to put it down and literally carried it around with me reading as I went from room to room.
I was so wrapped up in the book and what was going to happen next, I'm really not one for "Christian Fiction" Or so I thought. If you like Sci-Fi books and err on the side of young adult Cristian reading materials then this book would most definitely be a good pick for you. At first when I started reading it I honestly didn't even connect the "invaders" to what they actually were. But as the story went on I started putting pieces together.
My only complaint is I wasn't aware that this book was part of a series. Possibly my fault, but I think that should be stated somewhere because at the end I was frustrated with so many loose ends. Speaking of the end, the Readers Guide was really worth reading. Good job Mr. Black, you have gotten another person into your books. I will be looking for more by him as soon as I can. And I will definitely be picking up the next book in the series(I HOPE)

What if...there was a world beyond our vision, a world just fingertips beyond our reach? What if...our world wasn’t beyond their influence?

I received this book free from WaterBrook Multnomah. To be honest this book was a bit slow to start out. But once I got a few chapters in, it started  to get really good. lol
It's set in the old west when it was uncommon for women to be in the business world. But that didn't stop Miss Ida Sinclair, who back on the East Coast went to university for business. When her professor hit on her she talked the dean into giving her her diploma and moved out west to Cripple Creek, Colorado with 2 of her sisters, Kat & Nell. She moved into a boarding house run by Miss Hattie. Miss Hattie is a sort of mother hen over her. Ida finds a job with Mollie O'Bryan, a successful businesswoman in Cripple Creek. Two men vie for Ida's attention, a preacher & one of the towns many business men. Will she fall for the good preacher man or the man whose dreams are seemingly the same as hers.

Read an Excerpt from the book! HERE!

I received this book I think the last week of May. It's taken me a bit to read it because at first I just couldn't get into it. It took me a few chapters. But when I finally got interested in it, WOW. It was an amazing book. I just found out it's part of a series! I will have to get the other books because I really enjoyed the story.
This book is based on Tipper & her friends & family. They are on a quest to find 3 statues that Tipper has sold to keep her family home. Their quest takes them to the capital city to the King & Queens palace, a place Tippers mom hasn't been in years. See Tippers mom is an exiled princess. In the process of their quest they meet up with the Dragon Prince, who decides to help them. He also lends them his dragons. The reason for this quest is Tippers father is literally disappearing. The book is highly imaginative & entertaining, I suggest if you like fantasy books then you get this book!

A Vision of Lucy By Margaret Brownley - Great book!!

 A Vision of Lucy
By Margaret Brownley
Buy It: Click Here!

This is the third book in the series A Rocky Creek Romance by Margaret Brownley. I really enjoyed this book. It arrived around 12pm Monday and by 4:30/5:00pm I was done with it! I honestly couldn't put it down. I think the longest it was down was 2-5 minutes when I had to take a restroom break, lol. It was a really well written book. The author really knows how to connect the reader to the characters. If the previous books in this series are as good as this one was then I will definitely be picking them up in the near future.
This book is about Lucy Fairbanks, who I think is living in the wrong time period. She's a young woman who wants a profession, she loves photography and thinks you can capture more with a camera than you can by just looking at a person. In this book Lucy is kind of unlucky. She gets herself into some of the worse situations. She is fun-loving and not at all a series person. In my opinion people need someone to balance them out. That would be where the tall, dark & handsome "bad boy" comes in. David Wolf. He lived in town when he was a boy but he was basically ran out of town by 4 cowards. This book holds a ton of emotion in it's pages. Guilt, anger, sadness, love, regret, excited, etc...

I most definitely recommend this book to others. In fact I told my mom about it and she's currently reading it.

A Reluctant Queen - Joan Wolf - AMAZING BOOK!

But it: Click Here!

Let me be completely honest. I started reading this book thinking I'd HATE it. Why? Because it said on the back "You've read it as a Biblical tale of courage. Experience is anew as a heart-stirring love story." Biblical? What?! First I've actually never read the Bible completely. Second, how did I miss that? I had no idea about Esther, or the Great King. I was going in blind.
This book has completely surprised me. I LOVED it! I was sad when it ended to be honest.

I can't believe that Esthers family would ask something like that of her. Marry the king and possibly be unhappy for the rest of your life to save your people? But I suppose back in those days "arranged" marriages weren't so unheard of. It was great that she finally came to love the king and him fall in love with her and continue to love her even though she was Jewish. The book I don't think follows the story in the Bible closely though. I'm sure there was a lot that was fantasized. Seeing how I've never read the story of Esther I can't compare the 2, but if it's anything like this book was then I will definitely have to read it.

Indelible - Kristen Heitzmann - 5/5 Stars!

This is the second book by Kristen Heitzmann I've read, the first was Indivisible. That was an amazing book so I had high hopes for this one. It didn't let me down. This book takes you back to Redford, Colorado, a intense tale of Trevor MacDaniel & Natalie Reeve. When a mountain lion attack on her nephew pushes them together, Trevor & Natalie must prove how strong they are. Trevor is an Ex-Gold Medalist Skier who has become a Search & Rescue Member. Natalie is a sculptor. She has eidetic memory, she withholds strong emotions on peoples faces. The only way for her to get rid of them is to sculpt them. She sculpts people from the rescuing of her nephew, her gallery opening. Trevor, Natalie & the whole town are about to get a very nasty visitor. A man who is just a little boy inside, lost. He sees Trevor as his adversary. He puts children in horrifying situations then photographs them and sends the pictures to Trevor. Everyone is pushed to their limits to try to find this sicko before someone is killed. Who is targeting the kids? Why is he targeting Trevor, a ex-gold medalist. Will everyone make it through? There are many amazing characters in this book. I urge everyone to get this book and get to know them. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Judgement Day - Wanda L. Dyson = 5 stars!

Chapter 1 - Link
Buy It - Link
[[Originally posted May 6th 2011]]
This book at first was a little hard to get into. I had to read a few chapters then it was a great book. It took me so long to finish it and post this review because every time I sat down to read it something came up and I had to put it down. I am immensely happy I finally finished it!

Suzanne Kidwell runs a television show called Judgement day, she investigates people who she thinks to be doing illegal activities. But a lot of the time she doesn't get all the facts and accuses the wrong person, as is the case with the principle. She is working on a huge case that would upset and ruin many lives. When her boyfriend is killed in her car her world comes crashing down and it's a race to prove she had nothing to do with the bomb on her car.

There are a ton of different characters in this book, there are the runaway teens, the going crazy father in law, the daughter who doesn't want to run the family business, the jilted ex who becomes friends with Suzanne, the guilt tripping parents. This book is a real page turner and I suggest it to anyone who enjoys a mystery.

5/5 Stars!

Unsinkable - Abby Sunderland & Lynn Vincent

Unsinkable: A Young Woman's Courageous Battle on the High Seas
By: Abby Sunderland & Lynn Vincent

 [[Originally posted April 27th 2011]]
I've recently read Abby's book, Unsinkable. To be honest I was one of the people who thought she made a mistake attempting the cruise. After reading her book and hearing her side of everything, I was so wrong. She was ready, more than ready. I hope she tries again sometime in the future, I will be paying close attention if she does. Good Luck Abby!!

This book describes what she went through, not only with the sailing but with people. How people treated her when they found out what she was doing. Thankfully for her she had a tight knit family and team of experts. In Unsinkable you follow Abby as she gets ready for the voyage and as she's out sailing. It's like you're there when you're reading her accounts of everything. You get to be with her as she cleans the sea life off her decks in the mornings, when she sails into port at Cape Town, when she's in trouble, when she's having fun. I would recommend this book to people who love a good read or kids who need to know that you can make your dreams come true.

Breath of Angel - Karyn Henley = AWESOMENESS!!!

[[Originally posted April 4th 2011]]
The first book I ever read by Karyn Henley was Breath of Angel. I was definitely not disappointed. I’m looking forward to the next books in The Angeleon Circle. The characters, layout & details was so entertaining that I couldn’t put the book down. I started it Wednesday and finished it Friday afternoon. This was the first book in the Angeleon Circle, the next is available in 2012. I will definitely be getting it.

This book follows Melaia as she travels and fights to restore The Wisdom Tree, the stairway to Heaven for Angels & spirits. You'll meet many characters that you will fall in love with. Melaia is on a quest, to find out who she is & help the angels with restoring the tree and bringing the harps together.

I recommended this book to people who like fantasy books. It has a touch of romance, really not even enough to mention. There's angels, shapeshifters, "talking" trees, enchanted harps and so much more. I rate this book a solid 5 out of 5 stars.

Curiosities of the Civil War - Webb Garrison

[[Originally posted March 20th 2011]]
I thought I was going to like this book. I thought wrong. While it was very entertaining it wasn't my kinda book. My husband & mom liked it more than me.

When I ordered this book I thought each "curiosity" would be a chapter. Instead they were shorter, probably a paragraph or 2 on average. There are 9 parts to this book to fill Civil War buffs up on interesting and quirky information.

For example did you know
On the second day Gettysburg, Union Major General Daniel E. Sickles took a direct hit from a Confederate shell. Within thirty minutes a surgeon had finished amputating his mangled leg.

Sickles loudly demanded that it be preserved in alcohol, but he soon be became tired of it and donated it to the U.S. Army Medical Museum. Tradition says he visited his leg several times during the postwar years but never remained with it morn that a few minutes.

I recommend this book to people who are interested in learning more of the stranger, unusual, not so talked about aspects of the Civil War.

Indivisible - Kristen Heitzmann - LOVED this book!

[[Originally posted March 3rd 2011]]
Read Chapter 1: HERE
This was the first book by Kristen Heitzmann that I've ever read. After reading this book I can honestly say it won't be my last. It was truly a good read.

Indivisible is about a small town police chief, Jonah Westfall, trying to solve a gruesome string of events while in the process of trying to heal his heart. But there is something in his way of healing. Tia Manning & Liz Rainer. Tia is a childhood friend and long time love. Liz is the new vet who has taken an interest in the chief. There are many main characters that make this book a very good read. So many things going on in the book but it all comes back to Jonah Westfall & Tia Manning. They are terribly in love but both are too stubborn and hurt to do anything about it at first. I would definitely recommend this book to others. I give this book a 4.5 out of 5.

Flight of Shadows - Sigmund Brouwer = Fantastic Book!

[[Originally posted February 14th 2011]]
This is the first Sigmund Brouwer book I've read. I was definitely not disappointed. It was absolutely fantastic. It took me a little longer to read mainly because I didn't want to finish it too quick. lol I wanted to savor it.

One of the main characters Caitlyn Brown, is the most wanted woman alive. Her DNA has the power to possibly save the lives of millions, if not billions of people. But she doesn't know this, she only knows that people are after her and she is extraordinarily different from everyone else, in her eyes a freak. After a chapter or 2 you meet Razor. He is an interesting character to say the least. Fast. Sharp. Dangerous. If he so chooses. There are 3 other main characters that you meet in this book. Billy & Theo, 2 of Caitlyns' friends from Appalachia & Carson Pierce a type of government agent. In the beginning Pierce is after Caitlyn,  dead or alive. Doesn't matter as long as her blood gets back to the people in charge. Razor is a type of unwanted/unwilling hero. This book has a few nice surprises in store for anyone reading it. I know the ending came as a complete shocker to me. :) I definitely recommend this book to anyone and everyone who likes futuristic type books and just a plain all around good read.

The Promises She Keeps - Erin Healy

[[Originally posted January 27th 2011]]
I finished reading The Promise She Keeps by Erin Healy a few days ago. All in all it was a really good book, the first chapters for me were a little iffy but I enjoyed it.

Promise a aspiring singer has Cystic Fibrosis, a terminal disease. She is counting on the fame from making it big as a singer to keep her memory going. Porta, an aging sorceress is searching for immortality. Chase is an austic man who's in love with Promise and also an artist. He has a way with trees, he matches people with the trees they are. After a few freak accidents Porta starts to think Promise is the one she's looking for. You also meet Portas' son, Zach. Chases' twin sister & his handler. There's a twist in the book that I did not see coming, it had me amazed that you didn't have any indication that was the case.

Though I have never read any of Erin Healys' work I truly enjoyed this book and most definitely pick up more of her works in the future. Her attention to detail was amazing. I'd definitely recommend this book to friends.

Divine Appointments - Charlene Ann Baumbich

[[Originally posted January 18th 2011]]
I just finished reading Divine Appointments by Charlene Ann Baumbich & I enjoyed it. I'm not going to say I loved it, but it was good. I just couldn't "connect" to the book. Try as I might I just could not get into it. BUT it was very well written and very entertaining. It made me laugh & cry.

"Divine Appointments" revolves around Josie Brooks & people at Diamond Mutual. It starts with Josie being hired to let the bosses know who she feels won't be good for the company after the change. There's a subtle love brewing between her and Lyle, one of the men she reported to. She's a strong independent woman who has no time for the pleasures in life. Or so she thought, she starts a friendship with her Realtor & finally realizes that she does indeed need people. The secondary characters are probably my favorite, Barb & Marsha, and Frank. Marsha is a divorced lady who is resentful of her ex. Barb suggests to her that she express her feelings as does her doctor. What she does is marvelous. A book in work, which you get to read through out the book & a journal. In the end she admits that she needs to forgive. I would definitely recommend this book to a friend. In fact I think my mom would actually like it. :)

A Billion Reasons Why - Kristin Billerbeck

[[Originally posted January 11th 2011]]
A Billion Reasons Why by Kristin Billerbeck is a very well written and thought out book. To be completely honest this is the first time I ever read a Kristin Billerbeck book. I have to say I was NOT disappointed!

Katie McKenna is engaged to be married to a man she doesn't love. She's settling for him. Her true love is a "multimillionaire" named Luc DeForges. In their past they both did things that hurt the other and strained their relationship. This book takes you on a journey as Luc tries to make her see that he loves her and only her. It starts in California when Luc shows up at the school Katie teaches at & ends in New Orleans at the wedding for his brother. Will Katie finally admit to herself and Luc that she is in love with him? Or will she marry Dexter? The guy from California who is safe.

I recommend this book to anyone who likes chick-lit, romance, & fun books. You won't be disappointed! I know I wasn't. :)

Unto The Hill - Billy Graham Review

[[Originally posted December, 12th 2010]]
The book I choose to review was Unto The Hills by Billy Graham. I got it in the mail yesterday(11th). Yes I am almost half way finished with it. I will more than likely finish it before I go to sleep tonight/morning. It's a really good book & surprisingly enough I can't stop reading.

At first I didn't think I'd like it or get into it. But it's surprising me. I actually really like it. My favorite day is January 4th, The Value of a Man. I can relate so much to that it isn't funny. This book is perfect for someone who needs a boost in faith, or even just want to strengthen your relationship with God. It has scriptures for everyday & a prayer at the end of each day.

When I finish it I am going to let my grandma borrow it. Maybe it will help her.
